Praying Right: Understanding the Principle of Asking

Asking, in the context of prayer, means making a heartfelt request to God, expressing a need, or desire, or seeking guidance. but the way we ask matters a lot. Some believers pour their hearts out in prayer but are left feeling frustrated, questioning why they don’t see the results they desire. Praying right goes beyond words; it’s about understanding how to make your requests in a way that aligns with God’s will and leads to results.

The Bible shows us that it’s not just about what we ask but how we ask. James 4:3 (NIV) says: “When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives.” If you’ve been praying and feeling unheard, this might be the missing piece. It’s time to look closely at your approach. Are your requests aligned with God’s will? Are they backed by faith and pure motives?

Ask According to God’s Will
To truly connect with God in prayer, you need to pray according to His will. 1 John 5:14-15 (KJV) tells us: “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hears us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.” Take the time to know what He desires for your life through His Word. Study the scriptures, hold onto His promises, and make them the foundation of your prayers.

Pray in Faith
Don’t approach God doubting. Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV) says, “Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” Your faith brings God’s promises into your reality. When you pray, see beyond the present circumstances and trust that God is true to His word no matter what.

Check Your Motives
What’s driving your prayers? Is it a desire to glorify God or just personal gain? God sees beyond words—He sees the heart. Ask yourself: “Why do I want this?” Prayers motivated by love and a desire to fulfill God’s purposes have a greater chance of receiving a resounding “Yes!” from Heaven.

When Do You Receive Answers to Your Prayers?
The Answer to your prayers comes immediately after you pray, one of the things that hinders the manifestation is unbelief. Mark 11:24 (KJV) “Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.”
God already knows what we need and has made provisions even before we asked. But when we ask without Faith, we delay our blessings. So, when you pray believe and you will receive.
